Volkswagen has released three teaser photos of their much awaited Electric vehicles concept set to be presented at the Paris Motor Show. According to Herbert Diess, CEO of Volkswagen, the EV concept is said to be a game changer in the EV class promising fast charging and a 600km electrical range. Scared yet Tesla?

Game Changing EV

Volkswagen promise their electric vehicle to be a game changer. It will have an EV range of 400 to 600 kilometers and will feature fast-charging to recharge the battery pack to 100 percent capacity in just 25 minutes - much faster than Tesla and other EV cars which can take up to 5 hours to fully charge.

"This unique prototype of its kind marks the entry of Volkswagen into a new era. The brand will be as revolutionary as it was the 'Beetle' seven decades ago, before becoming the best-selling car of the century". Volkswagen representatives claim.

To do this, Volkswagen has already created a new technical platform of modular construction for all future electric cars. Under the name MEB (Modular Electrification) where in the platform features batteries located in the vehicle floor and an electric motor or two featured at one or both axles. The prototype of the EV car will be the size of a Volkswagen Golf and a cargo space like a VW Passat. Checkout the photos here.

Preparing to Revolutionize

Remember that Volkswagen announced that it will launch 20 electric and hybrid cars by 2020 and this may be one of those 20 new cars. In addition, Diess also said that this figure will increase to 30 new models by 2025.

In accordance to this plan, Volkswagen held a meeting last Friday with over 20,000 of their employees gathered at the Wolfsburg headquarters. At that four-hour meeting, Karlheinz Blessing, VW executive announced that the German giant will release in November a new strategy for the group, focusing on the manufacturing of electric cars. He admitted that the plan will have a direct impact on the workforce.

"Qualification, new tasks, new forms of work, all that we have to face. There will also be a reduction in staff through early retirement," Blessing said at the meeting.

Can Volkswagen truly revolutionize the EV industry? Will have to wait for the Paris Motor Show to see the EV Concept.
