BMW is all set to unveil its new i8 Protonic Dark Silver Edition at the upcoming Paris Motor Show, the company revealed in a blog post.

The above special edition model would only make for a new enticing color scheme with the car itself remaining just the same. BMW explaned its akin to the Protonic Red Edition it had launched earlier, which means the new Protonic Dark Silver Edition too will be built in a limitied time window.

Production begins in December at the company's Leipzig facility and will run though early 2017. BMW though has stated there will be no cap on the number of Protonic Dark Silver Edition that would be built. There will be as many as customers want till the order book remains open, reported Carscoop.

As for the looks, the new dark gray color no doubt imparts a special character to the otherwise futuristic looking car. There will also be the characteristic Black Belt inserts in the front bumper, front hood, side skirts, and rear fascia that further accentuates the exterior dark gray paint job. As is mentioned in the company blog, the above makes for a two-tone color scheme that makes the special edition i8 all the more alluring.

No changes in the interior has been specified though going by the way the Protonic Red Edition came across, some design changes in the interior cannot be ruled out either.

The power equation remains the same, which means the same 1.5-liter turbocharged three cylinder engine in the rear that churns out 228 hp and 236 lb-ft of torque. Then there also is the electric motor sitting on top of the front axle that chips in with another 129 horses and 184 lb-ft of torque. Together, its 357 hp 420 lb-ft of torque generated that propels the car to 62 mph from rest in just 4.3 secs.
