Mitsubishi is set to recall a total of 82,426 vehicles because of the problems that were discovered in its constant velocity transmissions or CVTs.

The vehicles that Mitsubishi will recall are the models for 2015 and 2016. The recalls will affect the CVTs found in the 2015-16 Outlander Sports, 2016 Outlanders, and 2016 Lancers. The company had already recalled over 45,000 Outlander Sport crossover SUV vehicles, according to Consumerist.

The recall is conducted after it was found that some CVTs in certain vehicles could have signal failure and delayed acceleration temporarily, based on documents submitted by the company to the National Traffic Highway Safety Admission.

"Unexpected reduction in available acceleration during every day driving, such as acceleration from a stop, merging on to a freeway, or turning left against traffic, could result in an increase [sic] risk of an accident," the carmaker said in the statement. It added that the driver has to manually shift the selector to "drive" from "neutral."

These defects can increase the chances of an accident, and the recalls are conducted as a safety measure. However, there haven't been any reports about accidents, injuries or deaths because of the defect on the CVTs, according to Auto Blog.

Several dealerships will offer services in reprograming the affected CVTs for free. Mitsubishi Motors in North America already began their recall of certain vehicles on August 15, and the company is asking those who bought the affected vehicles can contact their customer service. From there, dealers will solve the issue by updating the software of the CVT.

Mitsubishi first became aware of the issue back in January after a customer had submitted a complaint about hesitation of the vehicle. The CVT issue was determined, and the range switch was substituted. But it didn't end there, as the complaints continued to pour in the following month.
