Despite the five-year peak in car sales, recent reports revealed that sales for muscle cars such as Ford Mustang, Chevrolet Camaro, and Dodge Challenger have declined tremendously. Are these high-performance muscle cars going out of style?

According to Karl Brauer, the senior director of insights for Kelley Blue Book, the decline of muscle cars sales have been mainly due to the interest of the buyers. He said that customers who acquire the high-performance cars such as Ford Mustang, Chevrolet Camaro, and the Dodge Challenger were more interested in keeping the automobile to revive their magnificence during the 1960s and continue to keep a replica of it, only that there are modernized specs to these cars. This customer interest which is discretionary in nature, Brauer said, could be a problem and could be the primary reason for its car sales decline, reported Auto News.

According to Jim Cain, Chevrolet spokesman, the Chevrolet Camaro has experienced a tremendous increase in car sales since for five consecutive years starting 2010. In fact, just last year, they remodeled the unit which increased the car sales yet again. However, according to stats, sales for the muscle cars such as Ford Mustang, Dodge Challenger, and including Chevrolet Camaro, have declined 8.4%.

According to MTairy News, though the 1960s paved the way to the fame of muscle cars due to its high-horsepower and other distinct features, the models were out in force during the Mayberry Cool Cars and Rods Cruise-In series.

Douglas Sharpe of Martinsville, a car enthusiast and a fan of muscle cars, manifested that muscle cars were a big trend before due to its wide array of choices when it came to car design. He said that if muscle cars were driven on the road, it could easily be identified. However, nowadays, if the specs were taken off, it would be unrecognizable. According to him, because of lessened efforts to make the models unique, muscle cars such as Ford Mustang, Chevrolet Camaro, and Dodge Challenger are less appealing unless the car company would update its features.

Although Chevrolet Camaro has had an update on its specs last year, such improvements have been made years after the most recent modification. Same goes with muscle cars such as Ford Mustang and Dodge Challenger. Are the high-performance automobiles running out of style?
