Bill Gates' Porsche 911 Turbo Sold For $80,000

The Porsche 911 Turbo model built in 1979 and owned by Bill Gates sold for $80,000 in an auction.

"There was enormous interest in this item from all over the world," spokesman for the Viennese Dorotheum, the company that managed the sale of the 1979 model, Wolfgang Humer told the Austrain Times in an exclusive interview.

Providing further details on the auction of the rarest model, which comes with enormous power was bought by a German. According to reports from the Dorotheum auction house, the model was expected to be sold at a price between $49,000 and $63,000. 

The German made a final bid for $80,000 in a telephone conversation and took home the 1979 Porsche 911 Turbo model at the moment of victory. The model built in 1979 stands for some of the unique features in the auto industry. The model comes with 2+2 speedster and also voted No. 5 in a 1999's "Car of the Century Competition."

These days, international philanthropist Bill Gates is estimated by Forbes to be worth around $61 billion despite having already given away $28 billion eschews such zippy flamboyance.

"I drive myself around town in a normal Mercedes," Gates told reporters. "The family has a Porsche, which is a nice car that we sometimes take out. We have a minivan and that's what we use when it's the five of us."

Despite ranked as the world's richest man in the year 2010, Gates isn't short of Porsche cars at his mansion in Median, Washington. The former richest man also has 10 plus cars in his private garage.
