2016 Fiat 500 Set For Big July 4 Unveiling in Italy

The countdown is on.

Fiat will unveil its brand new 500 on July 4, nearly 50 years after the original ride debuted in 1957.

The big unveiling will coincide with the anniversary of the first 500 and the current model that debuted back in 2007, according to Fiat.

With more than 1.5 million global sales in 100 countries, the 500 is still going strong to this day as Fiat's most popular ride.

"It is an important anniversary and this year there will be a great surprise for the millions of fans all over the world who drive it, want it or just admire it," said Fiat about the new car.

The current-gen model has only received slight changes since debuting eight years ago, which means fans shouldn't expect a complete overhaul this time around either.

The 2016 ride is expected to receive at least new front and rear bumpers, revised LED taillights, more color options and 15- and 16-inch wheels, according to Carscoops, citing a leaked presentation sheet.

Fiat is not commenting on specs yet, but we should know more this time next month.

After being unwrapped on Independence Day, Fiat will likely have the new 500 on hand at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September.

The Italian automaker says it is on track to sell 250,000 in the U.K. alone this year so its annual sales could be even higher before the end of the year.
