With the 2015 New York Auto Show just a few weeks away, we now know another vehicle that show goers can get excited about.

The completely redesigned 2016 Chevrolet Spark hatchback will be officially unveiled on April 2 at the NY Auto Show, General Motors announced on Monday.

A teaser photo of the Spark reveals an updated rear and a more modern roofline than its predecessor.

The Detroit automaker hopes the Spark will attract younger car buyers to the brand in hopes they'll stick with Chevy

"The new Spark's design has evolved and grown up with the segment," said Michael Simcoe, GM International vice president of Design in a company statement. "The youthful whimsy of the original Spark is still in its genes, but it is conveyed in more traditional proportions that reinforce the customer's refined expectations."

An on-sale date and base price for the 2016 Spark has not been announced yet.

Since going on sale as the Beat in India back in 2009, Chevrolet has sold more than 1.1 million Sparks worldwide. The vehicle is now available in 71 different markets, including the United States, Mexico and South Korea.

During the first two months of 2015, sales of the Spark in the U.S. are up 32 percent compared to the same time last year, according to GM. Twenty-six percent of Spark buyers are under the age of 35.

The 2016 Spark will likely compete for sales against the Smart ForTwo, Mitsubishi Mirage and Fiat 500.

Last week we confirmed that the 2016 Chevrolet Malibu will make its formal debut in the Big Apple on April 1 after a teaser photo was released.

Press days for the New York Auto Show are set for April 1 and 2, and the show will be open to the public on April 3-12.
