Barcelona residents can now get food delivered to their door through Uber's UberEATS restaurant delivery service.
The service, which is already in full force in Los Angeles as "UberFresh," is subject to fewer regulatory restrictions than Uber's taxi-ride sharing operations and will make use of its already established network of users.
"Uber is always looking for ways to use technology to get people connected to their world as quickly and as efficiently as possible," the company said in a blog post announcing the service on Thursday.
For UberEATS, the company has teamed up with Barcelona food guide Plateselector and guarantees that orders will be delivered in just 10 minutes or less, according to the blog post.
"Plateselector is excited to be a part of this collaboration with Uber, an internationally renowned brand," said Johann Wald, Plateselector co-founder, according to the Uber blog post. "We are fans of their app and are looking forward to contributing our expertise to the UberEATS dining experience."
All Barecelona residents have to do is tap the UberEATS icon while using the app and just like that you can order and track your food until it's delivered to your door.
All orders placed through UberEATS are charged to your Uber account.
So why is the service being offered in Barcelona? No idea. But the city is scheduled to host the Mobile World Congress in two weeks so maybe Uber is looking to show off by ordering up some food for everyone. Nearly 30,000 people are expected to be in attendance for one of the world's largest mobile conferences.
The UberEATS service was also briefly available in Madrid before a legal case began.
Uber has been banned from operating its ride-sharing service in places like Spain, India, France and South Korea as it fights legal issues that include alleged violations of using unlicensed drivers, according to Reuters.
