2015 Range Rover Sport HSE Td6: 2015 Detroit Auto Show

Jan 11, 2015 06:00 PM EST | Jeff Jablansky

This is the 2015 Range Rover Sport HSE Td6: Land Rover's attempt to take on the midsize luxury diesel sport-utility vehicle market after years of sitting the game out. With the more efficient powertrain installed, this Range Rover will bypass filling station after filling station.

What is it?

A 254-hp turbocharged V-6 joins the array of engine options for the Range Rover Sport, which transformed into the gotta-have-it SUV after a redesign in 2013. The horsepower figure may not seem impressive, but it's enough to help the Range Rover Sport HSE Td6 scoot to 60 mph in approximately 7 seconds. A healthy 440 lb-ft. of torque ensures that you'll never have a slow start off the line.

What's new?

The addition of the turbodiesel V-6 is the biggest news for the Range Rover Sport, which was just redone about a year ago.

Most fascinating feature?

Like the larger Range Rover, the Range Rover Sport HSE Td6 will feature the superb ZF 8-speed automatic transmission currently installed across the model lineup.

Can I buy it?

The 2015 Range Rover Sport HSE Td6 is set to go on sale in the United States in the autumn, timed with the larger Range Rover HSE Td6's on-sale date.
