Audi is launching its most powerful production five-cylinder engine for the RS lineup ever, offering 367 horsepower, 343 pound-feet of torque and a zero to 62-mph time of just 4.3 seconds.
Available for the new RS3 Sportback, the turbocharged engine has an available top speed of 174 mph, according to Audi.
The new Audi RS3 Sportback, which will include "sharp interior and exterior details and a generous list of equipment," is expected to hit dealerships this coming summer.
The 2.5-liter TSFI continues an Audi legacy with its power and sound experience.
"The throaty roar and snarl backed by the rhythm of the 1 - 2 - 4 - 5 - 3 five-cylinder ignition sequence is the classic Audi soundtrack," the automaker said.
The standard seven-speed dual-clutch transmission offers a choice between two automatic modes or manual shift.
"There is a long tradition of five-cylinder engines at Audi," Dr. Ulrich Hackenberg, board member for technical development at Audi AG, said in a statement. "In the 80s, they turned Audi into a sporty brand, both in motor sports and in production. The new Audi RS 3 Sportback features the latest generation of our 2.5-liter, five‑cylinder engine--the most powerful production engine in the modular transverse matrix."
The sportback's profile features widened front fenders, chiseled side sills, matte mirror housings and a large roof spoiler, while a more visible bumper and large tailpipes embolden the rear of the vehicle.
Extra touches such as a carbon engine cover are available, and the RS3 comes in eight exterior paint finishes. The two new options are Nardo Gray and Catalunya Red in Metallic, the latter being unique to the RS3 Sportback.
Inside, the RS3 Sportback gets a black finish with RS badges and leather-covered seats that have gray contrasting stitching.
Audi's RS lineup now comprises seven models: the RS 3 Sportback, RS Q3, RS 4 Avant, RS 5 Coupé, RS 5 Cabriolet, RS 6 Avant and RS 7 Sportback.
