Honda Unveils 'Throwback Toy Tunes' Contest to Raise Money For Charity

Honda has launched three social videos featuring toys like Gumby, He-Man and Skeletor singing holiday songs for a good cause.

The automaker said it will donate approximately $100,000 benefitting three charities, including the Children's Hospital of Orange County, the Little League Urban Initiative and the Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation. Each specific video has a charity associated with it.

The video that collects the most views through December 21 will win a grand prize of $50,000 for that charity, according to a company release. The other two charities will each receive at least a $25,000 donation.

In each video, the toys ask viewers to share their own videos in hopes of winning the grand prize for their affiliated charity. Charities will also promote their videos on their own social media channels to gain more views.

"Honda is committed to being a company that society wants to exist. And we are dedicated to giving back and bringing joy to people's lives," said Susie Rossick, senior manager at American Honda Motor Co., Inc. in a company statement.

On Cyber Monday, the campaign continued with its #Skeletakeover promotion, which featured Skeletor taking over the Honda Twitter channel to broadcast his evil messages.

"There is no better holiday gift than helping the efforts of the Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation, Little League Urban Initiative and Children's Hospital of Orange County and having some fun in social media while we're at it," said Rossick.

The first video features Jem and G.I. Joe singing "Fa La La La Love."

Gumby and Pokey sing "Whatever Comes to Mind" in their video.

Skeletor and He-Man sing "Jingle Bros" in third and final video.

The "Happy Honda Days" campaign debuted back in November with seven spots on TV that pay homage to popular toys throughout different decades. Extensive digital, print, POP and radio placements have also been released to promote Honda's big holiday event.
