Report: Apple Quietly Pulls Bose Products from Shelves after Patent Dispute

Apple has yanked Bose products from its shelves and its online store, likely due to the rivalry between Bose and Beats Electronics after Apple acquired the latter earlier this year.

Bose headphones and speakers are no longer sold at physical Apple locations, TIME reported via 9to5Mac, while the merchandise is also unavailable at the Apple online store.

Soon after Apple acquired Beats for $3 billion, Bose filed a patent claim against Beats Electronics. While the claim was quickly settled out of court, tension has continued between the two electronics rivals.

TIME additionally noted that Apple has continued to offer headphones manufactured by Sennheiser, Urbanears and other brands that also compete with Beats, so the exclusion of Bose products may be a "pointed jab."

After Bose scored a high-profile sponsorship deal with the NFL, Beats headphones have been banned from on-camera appearances, including when quarterback Colin Kaepernick was fined $10,000 this month for wearing headphones from the company founded by Dr. Dre. Other players have also been fined for donning Beats headphones at NFL games and events.

The ban on Beats has actually had something of a positive effect since it's resulted in plenty of free coverage for the brand, according to Beats co-founder and Apple employee Jimmy Iovine.
