Mitsubishi has issued a recall for i-MiEV electric cars from model years 2010-'14 due to faulty vacuum pumps that can keep the brakes from working properly.
Including 1,810 vehicles in the U.S., the recall will involve Mitsubishi dealerships either reprogramming the brake vacuum pump controller or replacing the brake vacuum pump, Edmunds.com reported.
The brake vacuum pump can malfunction because of faulty programming or corrosion from road salt, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration summary.
The company didn't immediately respond to an Edmunds query asking if the recall has been connected with any accidents, injuries or deaths.
The recall affects vehicles manufactured from Sept. 15, 2009 to March 25, 2014.
Mitsubishi has not yet announced a start date for the recall; owners can contact the automaker at 1-888-648-7820.
The company announced its largest recall since December 2012 earlier this year when 920,000 Mitsubishi vehicles were recalled worldwide for faulty light switches. The headlights and blinkers in the affected vehicles can stop working properly when the base of the light switch cracks, according to Mitsubishi Motors spokesman Nobuhiro Kudo, Reuters reported in June.
Mitsubishi sold around 1.05 million vehicles worldwide last year.
