Bobit Business Media will present the first-ever Green Fleet Car and Truck of the Year Awards during the 2014 Connected City Summit on Nov. 20, as part of the Los Angeles Auto Show's Connected Car Expo (CCE).

The Green Fleet Car and Truck of the Year awards recognize the most environmentally-friendly cars and trucks on the market.

Both Business Media will pick three finalists in each category, car and truck fleet of the year.

Finalists are selected based on submissions by OEMs.

Winners will then be voted upon by the readers of Green FleetAutomotive Fleet, Work Truck and Business Fleet magazines

Readers will make their selections through an online ballot.

"Fuel efficient, environmentally-friendly cars continue to be a hot topic," said LA Auto Show President, Lisa Kaz, according to a company press release. "We are excited to include the Green Fleet Awards this year and shed some light on the cars and trucks that make the most positive impact on the environment."

The winners will be selected based on "a strategic evaluation of their performance and contributions to the environment," along with a numerical score that is calculated based on: fuel economy, Insurance Institute for Highway Safety Association ratings, EPA air pollution score, petroleum displacement, EPA greenhouse gas emissions, passenger capacity for cars and payload capacity for trucks.

Bobit worked with and received technical assistance from the National Renewable Energy Laboratory, Oak Ridge National Laboratory, and Argonne National Laboratory, which support the U.S. Department of Energy's National Clean Cities program to develop the award criteria.

The Los Angeles Auto Show is the first major North American auto show of the season each year.

Press days for the show will be held on Nov. 18-20. The show is open to the public Nov. 21- Nov. 30.

Make sure to check back once the nominees have been announced.
