9 Must-See Models from This Year's Paris Motor Show

Sep 22, 2014 07:20 PM EDT | Jordan Ecarma

2014 is an even-numbered year--which means that car fans should be getting excited for the Paris Motor Show right about now.

Alternating with the Frankfurt Motor Show, the Paris event is known for showcasing world debuts, and this year's show slated for Oct. 4-19 should be no different. Production and concept vehicle debuts including offerings from Mercedes, Jaguar and Volvo will be featured, according to Auto Express.

Each year, the Paris Motor Show is also home to a special historical exhibition. "Automobiles and Fashion," in partnership with INA (the French Broadcasting Institute), is the theme for 2014's event and depicts the most influential eras for cars and fashion.

"Both born at the heart of the Industrial Revolution, automobiles and fashion have never stopped intertwining thanks to their shared taste for style," said the official website. "Concours d'élégance, craftsmanship, icons, a passion for shapes, colors and lines, all the shared interests which have brought them closer together."

1. 2015 Mercedes AMG GT

Establishing itself as the Mercedes lineup's new flagship title, the 2015 Mercedes AMG GT runs on a 4-liter V8 engine and will compete with the Porsche 911 Turbo and Jaguar F-Type R. The powerful sports model comes in two options: the 462-horsepower GT version and the 510-horsepower GTS.

2. Mazda MX-5

The fourth generation Mazda MX-5 will launch in showrooms worldwide next year, according to the automaker.

"The MX-5 is an iconic model representing Mazda's vehicle-engineering philosophy--the pursuit of driving pleasure," Mazda said in a statement.

3. Jaguar XE

Revealed in state at an event last month in Earl's Court, London, the new Jaguar XE will be the first Jaguar model equipped with electric power steering. Its architecture strikes a balance between "a low, sporty driving position and a sleek, coupe-like profile," Jaguar said in a statement.

4. Volvo XC90

The sleek crossover marks a different approach for Volvo and could hint at things to come, USA TODAY reported.

"It appeals to customers that love active driving and a personal, expressive design," Alain Visser, senior vice president for Volvo Car Group, described the upcoming model in a statement.

5. Land Rover Discovery Sport

Designed with eco-conscious consumers in mind, the Discovery Sport premium compact has "5+2 seating in a footprint no larger than existing 5-seat premium SUVs," according to the automaker.

6. 2015 Bentley Mulsanne

Bentley's new flagship model, which has styling touted as more "assertive" than its predecessors, has an eight-speed automatic transmission that has been recalibrated for better handling and keeps the engine speed above 2,000 rpm. Featuring boosted horsepower, the new sedan should be priced around $335,600 to start, Bentley spokesman Corey Proffitt told Edmunds.com.

7. Audi R8

The R8 has three powerful engine options: a 430-horsepower V8 engine, a 525-horsepower V10 and a 550-horsepower engine. Buyers looking for a true supercar experience should go for the V8, while the V10 option offers great acceleration, according to the automaker.

8. Fiat 500X

Slated to reach U.S. dealerships sometime next year, the new small crossover was teased in a video from Fiat earlier this month. The 500X will reportedly use Fiat Group's Small Wide platform that underpins the Fiat 500L and Jeep Renegade.

9. Mystery Lamborghini model

Lamborghini has been extremely hush-hush about an upcoming model that will reportedly debut at the Paris Motor Show, simply sending out a line-drawn teaser sketch last week, Motor Authority reported. The mystery car's tagline? "Once perfection is achieved, you can just double it"--which some say could be hinting at the carmaker's first four-door model.
