The spiders have struck again.
Suzuki is recalling 19,000 midsize vehicles that have multiple potential issues related to spider webs in their vent lines, the Associated Press reported.
Seven reports of issues in Kizashi cars from the 2010-'13 model years prompted the recall, which will involve replacing the vehicle's vent line with a new one that includes a filter.
According to Suzuki, spider webs can plug up a fuel vapor vent hose in the affected vehicles. Webs can block air flow, resulting in a deformed gas tank that in turn makes cracks and leaks and can lead to fires.
The recall hasn't been connected to any accidents or injuries in the U.S., Suzuki said in documents filed with federal regulators. The automaker will start notifying owners about the recall this month.
A similar announcement from Mazda earlier this year also involved spiders: The automaker recalled Mazda 6 sedans with 2.5-liter engines because vent hoses could be blocked by spider webs and cause issues.
The second recall to address spider-related issues, the announcement affected around 42,000 vehicles built from Sept. 14, 2009 to May 2, 2011.
The company had previously recalled Mazda 6 cars to prevent yellow sac spiders from getting into the sedan's vent line.
"In the affected vehicles, spiders may weave a web in the evaporative canister vent hose, blocking it and causing the fuel tank to have an excessive amount of negative pressure," the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration described the earlier problem. "Negative pressure could cause the fuel tank to crack, resulting in a fuel leak, increasing the risk of a fire."
In the second recall, Mazda dealers were told to inspect and replace canister vent lines in the vehicles and reprogram their powertrain control modules.
In November 2012, American Suzuki Motor Corp. filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection, according to the AP. The automaker has since stopped selling vehicles in the U.S.
