A New Mexico woman who texted her sister to say she was being kidnapped in a car by a man with a weapon was saved by police thanks to the message which officers used to help track down and arrest the driver.
Police found the kidnapper's car and tried to pull it over, Tanner Tixier, by using the description and license plate the sister provided, a spokesman for the city's Police Department said in a statement on Aug. 25, according to Reuters.
The car sped off however, and police gave chase until the driver, 36-year-old Daniel Romero, drove into oncoming traffic, causing a four-car crash.
Police said Romero would most likely be charged with kidnapping, aggravated eluding of law enforcement, and on three outstanding warrants, including a felon in possession of a firearm, based on preliminary information.
Five people were sent to a local hospital with minor injuries after the crash.
Romero was not hospitalized, Tixier said.
No details of the victim's injuries have been released yet.
