A Ferrari 250 GTO from model year 1962 could become the most expensive car purchase of all time.

Coming from a German seller, the Ferrari starts at 47.6 million euros, or around $62.7 million, High Gear Media reported. The special auto has been listed on the website Mobile, and the asking price includes the 19 percent Value Added Tax required by Germany.

The 250 GTO is popular among car enthusiasts thanks to its hand-built quality.

"This trend doesn't look like it will run its course anytime soon," said High Gear Media. "The 19th 250 GTO--built in September 1962--is set to cross the block at this year's The Quail, A Motorsports Gathering event on Aug. 15."

If the car is sold, it will surpass the record set last year by a 1963 Ferrari, also a 250 GTO model, that went for $52 million. An unnamed buyer made the purchase, topping an earlier GTO that went for $35 million. In 2008, still another 250 GTO sold for $28.7 million.

The $62.7 million offering listed on Mobile is one of the first 39 250 GTO cars to be produced in the Ferrari factory, each one of which is slightly different, making the model unique.

Besides the prized 250 GTO, other vintage Ferraris have brought in impressive figures. A 2014 auction featured a 1954 375-Plus that sold for $18.3 million, while an upcoming RM Auctions event has a 1965 275 GTB/C Speciale that may go for $34 million or more in August.
