Microsoft's hardware chief gave employees a sneak peek at "selfie" phone that will come with a 5 megapixel forward-facing camera during a meeting this week.
Stephen Elop, the former Nokia CEO who now runs Microsoft's devices business, unveiled the device to thousands at the company's annual employee meeting in Seattle on July 28, according to Reuters.
The 5 megapixel camera on the front of the device is more powerful than Apple's iPhone 5, which comes with a 1.2 megapixel front camera.
The Microsoft phone's screen is also larger, making it an ideal device for those who want to take pictures of themselves.
The 4.-inch screen selfie phone, plus another high-end Windows phone, will launch "soon," according to tech news website The Verge, which first confirmed the meeting.
Rival Samsung launched the Galaxy K Zoom earlier this year, so it's no surprise Microsoft wants to release a similar device.
The selfie phone has been codenamed "Superman" for the time being, whereas the second phone is being called "Tesla."
Oxford Dictionaries named "selfie" its word of the year in 2013.
The selfie craze hit its peak earlier this year when Ellen DeGeneres posted a photo of Hollywood stars at the Academy Awards which became the most popular message ever on Twitter.
