In case texting and tweeting are getting too strenuous, a new app lets you contact friends and family by literally pressing one button.

Simply called "Yo," the new app launched in April but made headlines this week after being written up by the Financial Times. The app that simply sends one word to contacts has received $1 million in funding from investors, Mashable reported.

Yo comes from Moshe Hogeg, CEO of the photo and video sharing service Mobli. Hogeg came up with the idea for the app after growing tired of texting his assistant when he needed her. The idea he pitched to developer Or Arbel was for an app with "one big button and when I tap it, it sends her a notification and she knows that I need her," according to Mashable.

Arbel's first response was that it would be easy to make the app, but he had no interest in doing it.

"I told him it will take me two hours to do it, but I'm not going to do it, because it's a silly idea," he said as quoted by Mashable.

The first version of Yo took Arbel about eight hours to put together. It can send a "yo" to your contacts or a "yoyo" if the contact is tapped twice. The app has garnered 50,000 users, according to TODAY.com.

Arbel sees more possibilities for the app, which could eventually support notifications about family events, sports and more.

"People don't get it. They think that it's just an app that says 'Yo,'" he told Mashable. "What we see is a whole new way to get notifications--life notifications--from friends, family...

"If you think this is just an app that says 'Yo,' you are getting it wrong," Arbel said. "It's a new way to get lightweight, non-intrusive notifications. We are here to cut through the noise. We like to call it context-based messaging."
