Facebook to Show Fewer, But Bigger Ads on Its Website

Facebook has confirmed that fewer but bigger ads will start appearing on the right-hand column of the desktop PC version of its social media website, according to Reuters.

The switch to bigger ads was decided on because users reportedly respond more frequently to them.

The ads will be the same proportions as the News Feed ads, which place paid marketing messages into a user's stream of content and news.

This will make advertising on Facebook "simpler" for marketers, since they won't need to use different images for different ads, according to a post on Facebooks's Business blog.

Facebook said it has seen more user engagement with the new ad design.

The company has not provided specifics yet, but usually the term calls for some form of user interaction, like clicking on the ad, resharing it, or posting a comment.

Facebook has also not specified how many ads will now appear on the right-hand column, though many experts feel the social media company could fit as many as seven box-like ads.

Facebook, has more than 1.2 billion users, according to Reuters.

Some advertisers will start seeing the new advertising option later this month.

The changes will only impact the PC version of Facebook's website, which currently accounts for less than half of its ad revenue.

Most users and businesses who use Facebook have been favoring the mobile version of its site instead of the PC version, according to Reuters.
