General Motors confirmed this week that the 2014 Cadillac SRX luxury crossover vehicle earned a five-star overall safety rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

The 2014 SRX received five stars in the side crash test, four stars in the front crash test, and four stars in the rollover crash test, according to the NHTSA.

Ratings also apply to front-wheel drive and all-wheel-drive versions of the SRX.

Standard safety features includes side blind-zone alert, rear cross-traffic alert, electronic stability control with traction control, six airbags, and antilock brakes.

Optional available features includes a rear vision camera, lane-departure warning, and a Safety Alert seat.

The Cadillac SRX competes with similar vehicles like the BMW X3 and Lincoln MKX.

The 2014 SRX also received "Good" ratings in every crash test conducted by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, including a "Good" rating in the tough moderate overlap front crash test.

The forces in that test are similar to those that would result from a frontal offset crash between two vehicles of the same weight, each going just under 40 mph.

The moderate overlap crash test was designed to see how a vehicle can withstand the impact of another vehicle, which weighs around the same amount, going under 40 mph.
