Graco Recalls 3.7 Million Car Seats; Call This Number for a Replacement Buckle

Graco is recalling around 3.7 million car seats after some customers complained that the buckles were impossible to unlatch.

Despite the size of the safety seat recall, which is the fourth largest ever, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration is asking Graco to recall almost 1.8 million more seats, CNN reported.

Graco is offering "new and improved replacement harness buckle to affected customers at no cost." To get a new buckle, call 800-345-4109 or email consumerservices@gracobaby.com.

The recall comprises 11 of 18 car seat models that the department asked Graco to recall due to unbuckling issues.

"NHTSA's investigation will remain open pending its evaluation of the Graco recall and until the agency's consideration of the review of the 7 remaining seat models is completed," the agency said.

If the final seven safety seat models are added to the recall, it will be the biggest such recall ever.

Graco said the voluntary recall includes "harness buckles used on all toddler convertible car seats and harnessed booster seats manufactured from 2009 to July 2013," CNN reported.

Car seats sold since July don't have the issue. Parents have complained that the red release button in the center of the harness can become stuck, making it nearly impossible to remove the child quickly in case of emergency.

"This is not a new issue for us," Graco spokeswoman Ashley Mowrey told CNN. "We've been working to help consumers for some time now."

According to Graco, food and beverages consumed in the car seat can make the harness sticky over time, and the company has issued cleaning tips for the buckles, The Associated Press reported. Some consumers have had to go to the extreme of cutting the seat's straps to get their child out.

No injuries have been reported in association with the issue. The 11 recalled models are the Cozy Cline, Comfort Sport, Classic Ride 50, My Ride 65, My Ride 65 with Safety Surround, My Ride 70, Size4Me 70, My Size 70, Head Wise 70 and Smart Seat.
