Sony Corp is supposedly discussing a deal with Apple Inc. to increase its supply of camera components for a new iPhone scheduled to be released sometime later this year.
The deal will "double" the supply of camera components, according to a report by Reuters, citing Nikkei.com.
Sony provides almost all of the complementary metal-oxide semiconductor (CMOS) sensors used for the current iPhone 5S's main cameras.
Apple might be considering a switch to Sony sensors for the secondary camera on the front however, according to the report. Currently Apple uses parts from suppliers in the U.S. and other locations around the world, according to Nikkei.com.
Since the smartphone company expects more people to use phones for video calls, Apple decided to feel out Sony about producing more sensors.
Sony isn't just an Apple supporter however, as the company also supplies products to the world's top selling smartphone company, Samsung Electronics, along with Huawei Technologies.
A recent report by NBE.com claims the next iPhone device will be made available this June, and in two new screen-sizes.
Apple is supposedly working on a 4.7/4.8-inch device and a 5.5-inch iPhone, using IGZO displays, instead of LTPS screens, according to the report.
The next iPhone will likely be called the iPhone 6, and will be Apple's eighth smartphone device.
The iPhone 5S and iPhone 5C were both made available in September 2013 in the U.S.
