Rossi Honda in Vineland, New Jersey made history recently as it became the first dealership in the U.S. to reach "electric grid neutral" status, according to American Honda Motor Co. in a press release.
What this means is the dealership produces "as much or more" electricity that it uses.
The dealership said it's installed 900 solar panels on its canopies over vehicles in its company parking lot as part of the initiative. The canopies don't just save help the dealer save on electricity but also protects the cars and lighting adds extra security.
Dealership owner Ron Rossi said monthly bill has dropped to "almost zero" according to the automaker.
"We can make a big difference," said Ron Rossi, the dealership's owner said in a statement.
The dealer also changed metal halide lamps on its parking lot light poles and replaced them with LED lamps.
Honda said the entire system is capable of generating 100 percent of the dealership's annual electricity use.
Honda said its electrical grid is capable of "producing as much as or more energy from renewable energy sources than it consumes from its local electric utility over a one-year period."
Honda debuted its "Green Dealer" initiate in 2012.
