General Motors is recalling 293,000 Chevrolet Cruze vehicles due to a problem with the power-assisted brakes.
The recall affects Cruze vehicles made in Ohio for the 2011 and 2012 model years.
The vehicles involved in the recall have a 1.4-liter turbocharged engine and six-speed automatic transmission.
Approximately 27 crashes have occurred due to the issue, but no one had been injured according to the Associated Press.
"When putting (the) car into reverse on level ground to back up, brakes do not work properly and hardly stops (the) car," said the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration in a description of what happens with the brakes.
GM claims the brakes don't completely fail, but they require "extra pressure" to stop the vehicle completely.
GM will fix the switch in the power brake vacuum pipe assembly free of charge.
