Fox Sports has reached a multi-year agreement with Formula E electric-powered racing championship and with United SportsCar Racing.
Formula E, which will begin competition in 2014, is sanctioned by the Federation Internationale de l'Automobile, which also sanctions Formula 1 according to Fox.
Formula E recently announced a schedule of 10 races in Europe, Asia, and North and South America. It will feature single-seat, and open-wheel cars which are similar to F1 cars.
"America is a key market for electric cars and to show our races live in the U.S. will be central to promoting this type of mobility," said Alejandro Agag, CEO of championship promoter Formula E Holdings, according to Edmunds.
Racing will begin in late 2014, and seasons will extend past New Year's Day, similar to basketball and hockey.
The United SportsCar schedule has yet to be revealed, but it will begin with the Rolex 24 at Daytona in late January or February.
Financial terms of the deals have not been released as of press time.
"With a global approach to acquiring knowledge and fast-tracking technology through the world of international racing competition, the FIA Formula E Championship is much more than just another weekend at the track," said Carlos Martinez, president Latin America for Fox International Channels, who helped broker the deal, according to Edmunds.
"It makes racing an integral part of solving one of the world's most daunting challenges and we are thrilled to be a part of that process."
The deal allows for full U.S. TV rights to Fox network channels, like Fox Sports 1, which will launch Aug. 17 as Speed TV.
"This series makes racing very relevant well into the future," said Martinez.
