General Motors provided the first look at the next-generation Chevrolet Colorado and GMC Canyon by releasing a teaser photo.

Company Chief Financial Officer Dan Ammann revealed the first images of the 2015 trucks during the Center for Automotive Research Management Briefing Seminar. At the event, Ammann said the trucks will keep the same names that customers are used to, but GM did discuss changing them before making their decision.

"We're in the middle now of launching the (Chevrolet) Silverado and (GMC) Sierra. So that's really just the beginning of the truck story at GM for the next couple of years," Ammann said at the seminar according to The Detroit News.

Production is set to begin in late 2014 at GM's Wentzville production plant according to a company press release.

GM North American President Mark Reuss said in the spring that the company is hoping to attract buyers with active lifestyles by releasing the new Colorado vehicle.

No specifications or a base price have been revealed as of press time.

"We have the light-duty trucks coming now. We have the heavy-duty trucks coming later in the year. We have the full-size utilities coming after that and then next year we will bringing the new midsize trucks to market," said Ammann.

The U.S. sold just 264,000 small trucks in 2012 according to Autodata Corp.
