The new 2014 Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG Black Series will be priced at $276,800 once it goes on sale this August at U.S. dealerships. The price includes a $1,800 destination fee.

The 2014 model will be sold for nearly 40 percent less than its predecessor. The 2013 Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG is sold for $200,405, including a $905 destination charge.

"The new SLS AMG Black Series is a perfect study in the one hundred percent transfer of technology and engineering from motorsport to road," said Ola Källenius, Chairman of Mercedes-AMG GmbH. "We have drawn inspiration from the worldwide success of the SLS experience."

The AMG vehicle features a 6.3-liter V8 engine that produces 622 horsepower at 7,400 rpm according to a Mercedes press release. The vehicle is also able to go 0 to 60 in just 3.5 seconds and comes equipped with a 7-speed sports transmission.

The SLS comes with a new coil-over AMG Adaptive Performance Suspension, AMG high-performance ceramic two-piece brake system and new alloy wheels. The AMG Aerodynamics package helps improve the handling and dynamics of the vehicle.

Other features that interested customers can expect include new high-strength screw fasteners to connect pieces together, new crankshaft bearings, and a re-designed oil pump.

"Fans of high-performance super sports cars will be fascinated by its high-tech package," said Tobias Moers, Head of Total Vehicle Development and Member of the Board of Mercedes-AMG GmbH. "The basis for passionate performance and supreme driving dynamics is provided by numerous new developments in the engine, transmission, suspension and aerodynamics - also giving top priority to our "AMG Lightweight Performance" strategy."

The new Mercedes was revealed at the 2012 Los Angeles Auto Show.
