The 2018 Volvo XC60 is Volvo's exceptional contribution to the already tough and crowded SUV segment. Being the fast-selling vehicle segment, it is challenging to standout and be the best when it is already too saturated. What makes an SUV standout? Has the XC60 managed to stand tall and proud amidst the sea of highly-able competition?

The 2018 Volvo XC60 is significantly lighter and smaller. As it got lighter and smaller, its performance altogether significantly received a much-needed boost. Almost all SUVs have gone through significant weight loss by using lightweight materials such as magnesium and aluminum. On the other hand, the XC60 rides on the base structure found on the larger 90-Series to support this performance.

Volvo Scalable Product Architecture design translates to driving with ease or stretching body sections to create vehicles of varying sizes and types. Its similarity with XC90 and S90 enables it to use the same engines, which is already in place for the 90-Series cars.

The 2018 Volvo XC60 has three engines. The T5 is powered by a 2.0-liter turbocharged inline-four cylinder, which is capable of producing 250-horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque. The midlevel T6 has both turbocharging and supercharging for its 2.0-liter engine capable of 316-horsepower and 295 pound-feet of torque. The range topper, T8 plug-in hybrid is extreme producing 400-horsepower and 472 pound-feet of torque.

The latest XC60 is longer by 1.8-inches and 2.1-inches lower than its predecessor. Well, it may be lower, but it is more functional altogether. This makes for a sleeker profile and more planted look.

The 2018 Volvo XC60 is definitely a great addition to the SUV lineup. It is impressive in more ways than one. It does standout effortlessly amidst the many competitions, in the already crowded place. As it hits dealerships this August, it is sure to rake in much-needed sales because, well, why not?
