Authorities are searching for an intruder who killed 9-year-old girl at her house in Valley Springs, California.

The Calaveras County Sheriff's office stated this weekend that the man was considered "armed and dangerous" and authorities have warned residents in the country town to keep their doors locked according to NBC News.

The victim's 12-year-old brother saw the intruder enter his home and the man quickly ran away. The boy then went to check on his sister and found her on the floor.

The girl suffered "several" stab wombs and was rushed to a hospital where she was pronounced dead according to KCRA.

Investigators have fingerprints and what they believe to be DNA evidence from the crime scene, meaning it should be only a matter of time until they catch the criminal.

The suspect has been described as a male, approximately six feet tall, with a muscular build. The man was wearing a black long-sleeved shirt and blue pants.

The suspect is still considered a threat according to investigators.

A 24 hour Tip Line has been set up to answer any calls relating to the case. If anyone has information about the intruder, please call 209-754-6030.

"Investigators would like any information relating to subjects who may have unexplained injuries or who have left town unexpectedly after the crime was reported," said Calaveras County Sheriff's Capt. Jim Macedo.

Tips can be made anonymously according to investigators.
