The 2018 Chevrolet Tahoe RST Comes With The Most Powerful Engine Ever Offered In Chevy's Full-Size SUV

Last Wednesday, Chevrolet revealed the 2018 Chevrolet Tahoe RST special edition, with some model-specific appearance upgrade and the option of the most powerful powertrain ever offered in the brand's full-size SUV. The automaker also announced the all-new 2018 Chevrolet Suburban SUV would be available in an RST edition.

Inspired by aftermarket trends, the new RTS will be equipped with a body-colored grille surround and door handles and set off by a black trim, badging and the brand's bowties. Other exclusive features will include unique 22-inch wheels that come with Bridgestone tires.

Sandor Piszar, Chevrolet Truck marketing director, said that the RST; "is designed for customers who want a street performance look without sacrificing capability or refinement, along with the option of increased performance as well." In addition, the extra feature will include a brand new performance package that includes a 6.2-liter V8 engine that produces an estimated 420 hp and 460 lb-ft of torque. The engine is paired to an all-new 10-speed automatic transmission. The engine can get the 2018 Chevrolet Tahoe RST to accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in 5.7 seconds and give an estimated towing capacity of 8,400 pounds.

Another feature included in the performance package is a Magnetic Ride Control, another first for the Chevy Tahoe. This active suspension system can gather road data every millisecond and manages the electronically controlled shock absorbers in every five milliseconds. The system can provide both improved cornering control and a more comfortable driving experience.

"Customers have been asking for more performance from Tahoe," said Piszar. "This is us delivering what they're asking for."

When it comes to fuel efficiency, an active fuel management deactivated two engine cylinders if ever it's not needed, and the new 10-speed transmission adds more efficiency. Eric Stanczak, chief engineer for Chevy full-size trucks, stated that buyer also wants fuel economy. Now, customers don't have to choose between performance and efficiency.

The 2018 Chevrolet Tahoe RST is said to arrive at the dealership this fall 2017.  The Performance Package will be released this coming winter, and pricing will be revealed to the on-sale date.
