The 2018 BMW X2 was debuted last year at the Paris Motor Show. Recent spy shots reveal that its bold and aggressive concept was carried over to the test mule.

Test Mule. In a report by Motor Authority, the new X2 was recently spotted testing for its upcoming launch in 2018. BMW's lineup will also see redesigned versions of the X3 and X5, including a new seven seater X7.

The X2 made its debut as a concept last year at the Paris Motor Show. While the aggressive lines of the original concept seem to be toned down in the mule, the shape looks to essentially be the same.

The upcoming SUV has a compact and coupe-like profile. It is a derivative and sportier version of the X1; however, it is much more aggressive than any of the already existing coupe-like SUVs in the BMW lineup. Similarly, the X4 is a more dynamic version of the X3 while the X6 is a more performance-oriented version of the X5.

Paris Auto Show Concept. In a report by Auto Car, the upcoming high riding five-door is set to become the sixth dedicated SUV model in BMW's lineup. It will be based on the UKL platform, very similar to the second-generation Mini Countryman.

The 2018 BMW X2 is much sportier and more aggressive that the X1. BMW's design boss, Karim Habib, has described the upcoming X model as "combining the fast moving body language and low slung proportions of a coupe with the robust construction of an X model."

The front-end has a distinct heavily structured bumper with a large central air duct. It also has oversized air curtains towards its outer edged. It also comes with a unique kidney-shaped grille which widens from the top to bottom. It is also bordered by brush aluminum.

Technical precision in the design is also apparent with the angular laser light headlamps. This has intricate graphics that look just like the traditional twin Corona design with blue highlights.

The BMW X2 concept also revealed a heavily profiled bonnet and a massive rake to its windscreen. A lower roofline and more angled tailgate than the conservative X1 was also apparent. This will greatly improve the car's sporty factor.

Large wheelhouses with 21-inch wheels together with pronounced fenders also added visual appeal to the flanks. The concept also had flamboyant sills finished with gray and red cladding and distinctive exterior mirrors.

The rear featured a prominent spoiler on top of the tailgate. It also revealed uniquely styled tail lamps and a high mounted bumper. This will likely provide more cargo space.

The BMW X2 is also expected to have an xDrive20i engine which is set to run a turbocharged 2.0-liter engine capable of 189 horsepower. Three diesel options will also be powered, all with a 2.0-liter turbocharged diesel engine: the X2 xdrive18d with 148 horsepower, the X2 xDrive20d with 187 horsepower, and the X2 xDrive25d with 227 horsepower.

The 2018 BMW X2 will officially be launched next year. What do you think about the mule's less aggressive, albeit still sporty appearance? Share your thoughts and comments below!
