Is it really possible for a hypercar to be wrapped in feathers for ultimate aerodynamics? Very recently, McLaren revealed its McLaren 570GT feather wrapped in black. Is it even for real? Many have been asking of its authenticity as the bird-looking hypercar got released in time for this year's April Fools Day.

Is this another April Fools gag? Well, believe it or not, McLaren launched its optional Feather Wrap for 570GT supercar/hypercar. According to Robin Crane, a biomimicry specialist at McLaren, they are not usually ones to crow about their achievements but has scored big points with the feather-wrapped 570GT. He even continued by saying that this has yet to be the most aerodynamic McLaren to date.

Unusual is definitely an understatement if one has to describe this hypercar. The black feathers all over make it look like it came straight from a horror movie. Others may also consider it a sleek ride of the comic book villain as he takes on the city with his sinister plans. No matter how people perceive of this, whether good or bad, it makes it aerodynamic- period.

It has around 10,000 feathers applied by hands to the car's bodywork. The feathers are extremely light as it is made from carbon fiber. It also took 300-hours to have all the feathers in place. With all the feathers, it just adds 2.5-kilograms or five pounds to the car's curb weight.

Of all the McLarens, why was the 570GT chosen to receive the feather wrap? The answer is as simple as it can get. The 570GT is considered a grand touring car, which makes it best suited for flying. The idea came about as Crane was walking around the Woking Campus when one of his companions looked up at the birds circling the lake. A feather was picked up and placed on the car. The rest is history as the conversation with the craftsmen and women at MSO led to the creation of the feather wrap.

The McLaren 570GT feather wrapped makes for one weird looking but extremely functional ride. This may not be an easy favorite and not many may be seen driving around with feathers all over their car, but it serves its purpose. As birds soar in the sky, the feather wrapped 570GT is set to soar on the road!
