2017 Nissan Pathfinder Review: Still Your Dependable Family SUV With Enhanced Look, Performance & Safety Features

The 2017 Nissan Pathfinder came out with significant improvements on design, performance and safety features. Although it seems forgotten, the model can still be considered the most dependable family SUV against its rivals from Mitsubishi, Jeep, Ford and Toyota.

The new Nissan Pathfinder now wears several of the new design language of the brand. The grille has been changed to the latest Nissan's V-Motion grille.

The front and rear of the new Pathfinder have also been refreshed. The new SUV now sports the improved headlamps containing the LED daytime running lights in boomerang shape. New bumpers were placed at the front and rear as well.

Underneath, the 3.5-liter V6 engine that works well with the direct injection. The new SUV delivers 202kW and 340Nm which also promotes fuel economy, which is also an improvement on its predecessor. The increased kW also provides a perkier feel compared to the outgoing model.

The 2017 Nissan Pathfinder's underpinnings are firmer despite the very aloof steering. It was also noted in the review of Drive that the new family SUV has eliminated the concern on the steering that greatly kicks back over corrugations.

With regard to throttle response, there was an issue on the rubbery connection of CVT models. However, the new SUV performs a well-sorted ride that kids and grownups will enjoy.

Furthermore, the fuel efficiency has been improved with a 23 mpg (10.21/100km) mixed rating in its front-wheel drive and a 22 mpg (10.71/100km) in all-wheel drive variant. This suggests that the overall fuel economy of the new Pathfinder has been enhanced despite the revisions that Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has done in its procedure of estimation of fuel economy.

On the inside, Bluetooth and radio are now included in the new infotainment system. There is now an 8-inch touchscreen with better graphics.

The top range Platinum variant features all the latest technology advancements including the NissanConnect services. Music can now be integrated too via smartphone app for audio streaming. Overall, the infotainment system of the new Pathfinder is one of the high-grade setups in the market today.

Meanwhile, the new Pathfinder is also a dependable family SUV in terms of safety. Passengers are safer with the blind-spot monitoring, cross-traffic alert, NissanConnect emergency services with collision notification, airbags all around the cabin and emergency calling.

The Platinum variant of the 2017 Nissan Pathfinder has the forward collision warning system as an additional safety feature. This system is comparable to the system being offered in the Infiniti and Murano range.
