2017 Ducati Monster 797 Combines New Tech with Bits of Old-School Design

The Ducati Monster 797 is expected to join the growing ranks of the company's entry-level bike market. It is affordable, easy to ride, and is sure to appeal to drivers who are keen to try some of the brand's products.

In terms of price, the Ducati Monster 797 is poised to be priced just below the Ducati Scrambler. The Monster shares the same engine as the Scrambler. Ducati is going back to its fundamentals by kitting the Monster with an air-cooled engine, according to NDTV.

At the heart of the Ducati Monster 797 is a Desmodue L-twin engine with rated with 75horsepower at 8,250rpm and 50.8lb-ft worth of torque at 5,750rpm. It has a classic 2-1 exhaust system with two lambda sensor and a catalytic converter, both helps in creating that signature Ducati sound.

The engine's power is mated with a no-nonsense 6-speed transmission with a wet mechanical multiplate clutch. The front wheel is kitted with a Kayaba USD fork, while on the rear is a Sachs monoschock equipped with pre-load and rebound adjustability.

For its brakes, there is the 320mm semi-floating braking discs with a radial-mounted monoblock Brembo calipers for the front wheel. The rear wheel is equipped with a 245mm disk single-piston caliper. In terms of mileage, the Monster 797 is rated at 44.3miles/gallon.

In terms of dimensions, the Monster 797 has a 56.5-inch wheelbase. The bike measures 31.7-inch at seat height. It weights 425lbs and the fuel tank can carry up to 4.36 gallons of fuel, according to Auto Evolution.

The Ducati Monster 797 comes in two trims, Sport and Urban. Each trim is configured with different exhaust systems, wind screens, LED turn indicators, carbon fiber parts, and billet aluminum components. The changes in each trim are focused towards aesthetics rather than the powertrain. The bike is expected to pick a price tag of $9,295.
