Ford launched the first Raptor way back in 2010 and had held off the second generation until today. Fortunately, Ford had developed new principles for its new lineup, the 2017 Ford F-150 Raptor to make it quicker, more powerful and 500 pounds lighter compared to its predecessor.
For 40 straight years, Ford's F-150 has been America's best-selling truck ever. In spite all the Accords and Priuses dominating the West Coast, this is still America's most popular mode of transportation.
The new 2017 Ford F-150 Raptor is powered by a 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6 engine that makes more power than the current 6.2-liter V8, which is rated to produce 411 hp and 434 lb-ft of torque. With the new powertrain, it can produce 450 hp and 510 lb-ft of torque.
According to the automaker, the upgraded punch increases the truck's towing capacity by 2,000 pounds and at the same time, increases the fuel economy by 23 percent. Ford also added that there's a 22 percent increase in the torque-to-weight ratio.
The truck's half-doors open to show off a rear seat with good legroom and headroom and plenty of cargo space. However, the new Raptor is designed more for work than commuting, so it doesn't come with a lot of creature comforts in the cabin. It's only equipped with two cupholders, set between the front seats.
The truck also has a lot of electronic support which includes several plug-in spots for small devices, a 12V plug-in for larger devices, and an 110V/400W AC plug-in for bigger gears. Another feature is the "six-auxiliary" up fitter switches that are located above the driver's head, which are also used by tow truck companies and law enforcement agencies.
Furthermore, the new Raptor has an aluminum body which makes the truck more costly to repair than steel. Also, it has a hardened or stiff ride when the bed of the pickup is vacant.
The all-new 2017 Ford F-150 Raptor is available in a basic version from $49,520. With the new Raptor, customers who are looking for reasons not to buy a Raptor will find them.
