Tesla Model 3 Out On The Street - Video Inside

Mar 15, 2017 08:03 AM EDT | Ileen Jasmine

Earlier this week, a prototype of the Tesla Model 3 sedan was caught on film driving along the streets. It was testing the road near Tesla's Design Studio in Hawthorne, California.

At $35,000, the Tesla Model 3 will be the most affordable model yet. It is expected to be released in the latter half of 2017.

The spy video showcases the electric sedan from the Californian automaker. And it does look like the Tesla Model 3 is ready for the customers even months before its actual release.

Unplugged Performance posted the spy video online. According to the team behind Unplugged Performance, the electric vehicle appeared to be out for test runs around Jack Northrop Avenue. As avid Tesla followers might now, Jack Northrop Avenue is also where the Model 3 did its test rides when it was first unveiled last year, 2016.

The initial production for the most anticipated electric vehicle has just begun in February. This means that the Model 3 caught in the spy video was likely hand-built for the purpose of the unveiling held back in 2016.

According to reports, the Model 3 battery cell production is already scheduled to begin in the second quarter of this year. This means that the sightings of Tesla Model 3 test units will become more frequent later in the year as the production continues to speed up.

The Model 3 prototype seen on the video has all the stuff fans can expect on a camera-ready car. It includes DOT reflectors, functional-looking front, rear and side lighting.

With that said, this is probably not how the Model 3 will end up looking on its release. As mentioned above, this is probably the same prototype unveiled last year.

The details on this model are nearly identical to that of last year's. Tesla has also guaranteed that the final design will change from last year's prototype.

As mentioned above, Tesla is aiming to release the Model 3 later this year. However, given the company's track record for product delays, fans are advised to prepare for the release date to be pushed.
