Hybrid cars offer better efficiency, but Hyundai Ioniq steps things up with thoughtful luxuries, advanced safety features, and ingenious design. The result is a most efficient hybrid that you can buy.

As reported by Cars Guide, Hyundai’s approach towards Ioniq is to make the car look and behave as normal as possible. Aside from a hint of hybrid blue across the nose and a stylized rear end, the Ioniq looks like a regular fastback sedan. While other companies produce plug-in hybrids that stray away from the design of their car’s DNA, Hyundai retains the practicality of a normal car. That is reflected in the interior as well.

All of the controls are normal, including the gear shifter, while the dash adds only a battery charge gauge to its regular controls. The seat room is fine with plenty of headroom, but things are little tighter in the back. There are ISOFIX baby seat mounts on both rear seat positions, while there are bottle holders in all of the doors, a pair of cupholders up front, and a pair in the rear. The cargo area is 443 liters, but it can be increased up to 1505 liters with the seats down.

According to Forbes, the standard Ioniq Hybrid comes with 1.56kWh battery and 32kW (43horsepower) motor that is tied to a 1.6-liter, 104 horsepower engine. Combined output is 139 horsepower and its EPA estimate is 58mpg, which makes it the most fuel efficient hybrid on the market.

The Ioniq Hybrid starting price is $23,035. The Ioniq Plug-In Hybrid has the same 1.6-liter, 104 horsepower engine, but it is tied to a 45kW (60 horsepower) motor and an 8.9kWh lithium-ion battery pack. The car can travel up to 27 miles in pure electric mode. The price and the mpg haven’t been released yet.

The last model of the Ioniq series is the Ioniq Electric. It is a pure electric vehicle using an 88kW (118 horsepower) motor that is powered by a 28kWh battery. It has a 124-mile range which is only half the range of the Chevrolet Bolt, but the pricing starts at $30,335 or about $7,000 below the Bolt. On the feature side, all models are packed with an impressive bundle of mechanical and electronic devices. The car has dual-clutch, 6-speed transmission. It has a 7-inch touchscreen, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and an HD radio with Sirius XM satellite radio reception. All these features make the Hyundai Ioniq far more engaging than any standard hybrid or electric vehicle.
