The 2018 Audi SQ5 was one of its surprises at this year's Detroit Auto Show. It is now lighter, more powerful, and more efficient.

According to Car and Driver, the SQ5 lost a lot of weight for this year. It is 77 pounds lighter than the previous model. The weight loss comes from the use of more aluminum in the crossover's structure. Additionally, the engine is also 30 pounds lighter than before.

This year's model is now 183.9 inches long. It is almost an inch longer than the previous SQ5. The wheelbase is also 0.7 inches longer at 111.2 inches. In addition, it is now 0.7 inches narrower and 1 inch lower as well.

For its exterior, the new SQ5 adopts the same look like the base Q5 but adds some extra design details. For one, it has more aggressive bumpers which give this crossover a more edgy appeal. The trapezoidal grille also adds to the signature "Audi" look.

According to Auto Blog, the newest version no longer has the previous generation's supercharger. Instead, it now has a 3.0-liter V6 engine. The powertrain is also similar to the ones used in the new S4 and S5 models.

The horsepower for the V6 remains the same as last year's 354. However, there is an increase in torque at 369 pound-feet, which is available anywhere between 1,370 to 4,500 rpm.

The turbo engine is paired with an eight-speed automatic along with a standard all-wheel drive. The Quattro sport rear differential is also able to enhance power delivery and handling. In addition, the torque vectoring system can send rearward power to one wheel when necessary. This is only available on the S sport package which has upgrades such as air suspension.

The inside of the SQ5 looks like the Q5 but is sportier. It has a fantastic Bang & Olufsen sound system as well as Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone integration. In addition, Audis Virtual Cockpit LCD instrument panel greatly enhances the cabin experience.

The 2018 Audi SQ5 will be available by spring of this year. Pricing has yet to be released.
