'Kong: Skull Island' Beats Out Logan At The Box Office, Owning An Enormous Hit Worldwide

Legendary and Warner Bros.' iconic King Kong movie series, "Kong: Skull Island," debuted an enormous $61 million to the Number One spot in its first weekend in theaters, which beating out the action film, "Logan." The overseas gross of the "Kong: Skull Island" debuts to $81.6 million, which delivers of $142.6 million. The film has an earning that estimated to $11 million more than Peter Jackson's 2005 series retool.

According to Channel News Asia, the secret success of the "Kong: Skull Island" is the massive production and marketing cost. The film debuted to $81.6 million in 65 markets outside the United States, and it needs to own a gross of $500 worldwide to consider it the biggest hit.

Hugh Jackman's "Logan" fell to Number Two as it contributes past $150 million in the United States and making a hit of $430 million worldwide. Director Jordan Vogt-Roberts estimated that the film would roll from $40 million to $50 million range. The two action movies are in a tight race, as noted by Hollywood Reporter.

The iconic ape movie hit the theaters March 24 and earned $142.6 million, with its biggest opening it gives the "Kong: Skull Island" a second title in the monster universe after Godzilla, which gained $93 million in May 2014. The film significantly earned $529 million worldwide and an enormous gross against its production budget of $160 million.

The Fox's movie, "Logan," is making the fight to the Number One spot a little bit rough, as well as the Blumhouse and Universal's "Get Out," which puts up a $21.1 million and earned $111 million in three weeks. The Lionsgate's "The Shack," owns $10.1 million, and the Warner Bros.' "The Lego Batman Movie," which gets $7.8 million after five weeks in theaters.

"Kong: Skull Island" owns an international bow, which exceeded Godzilla's in many foreign markets. The United Kingdom has been leading it with $7.6 million, which is 17 percent ahead of Godzilla. The South Korea's market is giving the film a $7.4 million. The Russian market is contributing a $60 million, and the Mexican movie market is enormously adding up to $5.6 million.
