Spy images have surfaced on the internet showing the new body style of the latest 2018 Hyundai i30 Fastback. There is still a work in progress, but it seems this is a Hyundai’s attempt to woo younger buyers to the brand.

The Motor 1 reported that the car’s design was dipped in camouflage, with an extra layer of disguise to mask the styling. Because it is labeled as a fastback, it is expected that the rear end will feature a more raked roofline. It is going to be a fire-door model, which means access to the trunk will be done via rear hatch. The most noticeable change at the front compared to the regular hatchback and the wagon versions are the position of the LED daytime running lights/turn signals.

According to Car Advice, the 2018 Hyundai I30 Fastback is going to slide beneath the i40 mid-sizer. Conceptually, the i30 Fastback is something like a cut-price Audi A5 Sportback, or smaller Kia Stinger/Skoda Superb. The i30 will likely have the same engine options as the regular i30 hatch. It will likely get the same turbocharged three-cylinder 1.4-liter delivering 120 horsepower. Another option is likely to be a larger 1.4-liter four cylinder delivering 140 horsepower. There is likely to be a diesel 1.6-liter CRDI with 95, 110, and 136 horsepower. The transmission is likely to be a six-speed manual or a seven-speed dual-clutch.

The Hyundai i30 N versions of the hatch will have 250 and 275 horsepower engine options and an electronically-controlled mechanical limited-slip front differential. Hyundai Australia communications manager, Bill Thomas, spoke with Car Advice and said that all the variants in the i30 range will be considered for a local launch. Since the i30 is a very popular car in Australia, they are considering the option of importing all body styles. The 2018 Hyundai I30 Fastback is expected to have its debut at the Frankfurt motor show in September.
