The new Jeep Wrangler Pickup will be pushed back once again. Originally slated for later this year, the Jeep Pickup was pushed back until mid-2018. A new report now says that the Wrangler Pickup will hit production sometime in late 2019.

According to a report by Road and Track, the head of Jeep said that Fiat Chrysler Automobiles NV plans on begin production of the new Wrangler pickup late in 2019. There is no name for the upcoming pickup truck yet.

Fiat Chrysler CEO Sergio Marchionne and Jeep head Mike Manley are considering historical Jeep names. The last pickup the brand sold was the Comanche. It was produced from 1985 until 1992 when the company decided to focus on the now discontinued Dodge Dakota.

Before the Comanche, there were several other Jeep Wrangler Pickup predecessors. The Willys Jeep Truck that was available earliest came between 1947 until 1965. After that came the Jeep Gladiator full-size pickup from 1962 until 1971. Finally, the J-Series was available from 1971 to 1988. All of the Jeep pickup trucks were assembled in Toledo. The new Wrangler Pickup will also be made here.

According to The Detroit News, Jeep has long teased the idea of the return of their pickup. They have shown a lot of concepts including the Jeep J-12 in 2012 and a Jeep Gladiator based on a Jeep Wrangler at the 2005 Detroit Auto Show.

An analyst commented that the Comanche name may prove to be problematic because it is not politically correct and could be offensive. Moreover, the Willys is the "holy grail of Jeep" and could be a new trim line altogether.

Since the new Wrangler Pickup has was pushed back this also means other highly anticipated models will also be pushed back. The all-new Jeep Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer will likely be available in 2020 at this rate. Grand Wagoneer was planned to debut in 2018 initially. Manley has confirmed that he is very comfortable with this timeline considering all of the retooling Jeep has needed to spend on.

The new Jeep Wrangler Pickup was confirmed for production in January 2016. Analysts predict that the golden age of Jeep will come once again and will significantly challenge the sales of Ford.
