Virtual reality is becoming more popular every day. But to be able to fully experience it, it requires large cameras and expensive gear. Huawei’s Honor VR Camera may change that.

Huawei has been described as “perhaps China’s most globally successful company” in 2014. Huawei was the first Chinese company to join Interbrand’s Best Global Brands at the 94th most valuable brand at $4.3 billion.

The Verge reported that Huawei Honor VR 360-degree camera is developed in partnership with Insta360. It is a 360-degree clip-on camera that works with smartphones. The Honor VR Came supports 3K photography and live-streaming. The details about the pricing or release date are still light, but Huawei said that it will release the clip-on accessory internationally. The resolution that the camera can shoot in is still unknown.

According to Digital Trends, it is also not known if the camera is going to work with a range of different phones, or with just Huawei’s own phones. It is also unclear how much the Honor VR 360 is going to cost. It is rumored to be around $350, which is the cost of the Samsung Gear 360.

With Mobile World Congress coming up in a few days, it is expected of Huawei to share some more details about the camera. This release pushes companies to launch virtual reality and 360-degree photography products. Despite the fact that Samsung has already a 360-degree camera of its own, it is not as portable as Huawei’s offering.

The Samsung Gear 360 costs $350, and it offers 4K video recording, but it only works with Samsung’s smartphones. It also looks slightly larger than Huawei Honor VR 360. With Facebook pushing 360-degree video content, and the fact that Honor VR Camera supports live-streaming, Huawei’s latest offering can be a big deal for Facebook Live. It is possible that cameras like this could help push 360-degree video not just for companies and publishers, but also for the average consumer.
