The Apple TV 5.2 untethered jailbreak is now available with SeasOnPass, which will free the second generation Apple TV according to GottaBeMobile.com.

The jailbreak allows the Apple TV to do more on the latest version 5.2 released last month with Bluetooth Keyboard support and a number of new features. The jailbreak is free available for Windows and Mac.

FireCore was able to successfully update versions of TV Flash and its SeasOnPass jailbreaking app this week, which frees any second-generation Apple TV with 5.2 software installed. No one has been able to jailbreak the third generation Apple TV released last March yet however.

The full list of changes according to FireCore includes:

  - Added support for Apple TV 5.2 and Bluetooth keyboards

  - Minor improvements to backups

  - Minor improvements to DVD playback

  - A handful of other bug fixes and improvements

How To Update Your TV?

 1. Backup your settings through the Maintenance>Manage Backups menu.

 2. Run the latest version of SeasOnPass to update the Apple TV to 5.2.

 3. Download and stall the new 2.2 version of a TV Flash (black).

 4. Install any desired items through the Maintenance>Manage Extras menu.

 5. Restore the previously saved settings through the Maintenance>Manage Backups menu.

FireCore does warn interested users that they may want to consider waiting on upgrading depending on how they'll be using their jailbroken TV. A note at the end of their update explains that some third party plugins like Plex, Remote HD, Rowmote and XBMC are not compatible with 5.1+ Apple TV Software.
