The first Fiat Panda was introduced in 1980, and it was produced until 1986. Then the second generation came along and launched in 2003, and was the European Car of the Year in 2004. Eight years later, the third generation was debuted at Frankfurt Motor Show. Now it’s time for the fourth generation.
In over 31 years Fiat has sold over 6.5 million Pandas globally, with more than 4.5 million being the first series Panda. Auto Express has spotted the latest Fiat Panda Cross model. The last model has been around since 2012, which means it is time for a facelifted version to arrive. The new 2017 Fiat Panda was spotted in Sweden during winter testing. The model is a four-wheel drive Fiat Panda Cross. It appears to have a distinctive scuff plate on the lower front bumper, and fog lights near the grill.
The prototype car has been covered in camouflage that obscured the changes, so the car appears very similar to the current model. It is expected to have new lights, and probably a tweaked bumper design on the final product. The Fiat badge also appears bigger. The current engine options are 1.3-liter diesel, 1.2-liter, and 0.9-liter TwinAir petrol engines. It seems that there are no significant changes on the rear of the new Panda.
According to Auto Evolution, Fiat Panda and Fiat 500 are sharing most of their components, which means that Fiat Panda might borrow some of the changes delivered to the Fiat 500. Apart from the engines mentioned above, it is rumored that the new Fiat Panda might come with a new additional engine. Fiat hasn’t taken the model past the 100 horsepower mark so far.
The new Panda might have better suspension, which would make the car cozier, while a few extra Noise Vibration and Harshness changes will boost the overall refinement level of the vehicle. There are also new color options that target both the exterior and the interior of the new Panda. The cabin might also get a new and improved infotainment system. The facelifted Panda will become available later this year.
