2017 Kia Sorento AWD: A Crossover That Delivers Great Flexibility And Plenty Of Power

The 2017 Kia Sorento is hoping to double down on last year's full redesign, by adding deeper smartphone integration and more advanced safety features. Previously known as a midsize crossover, the car has now become a full-fledged midsize status, taking on luxury and performance with the segment's best.

The car offers an 185-horsepower, 2.4-liter inline-4 and a 290-hp, a 3.3-liter V6, or a turbocharged 2.0 liter inline that produces 240 hp and 260 lb-ft of torque. The three powertrains will all include a 6-speed automatic transmission and can be equipped with front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive. The V6 on the other hand, adds 50 more horsepower.

The 2017 model is midsize SUV that offers in five and seven passenger configurations. It has five trim levels; L, LX, EX, SX, and SX Limited. The L version, SX Limited and the EX with a turbocharged engine are five-passengers only, while the SX and EX V6 are seven-passenger only. LX V6 is also a seven-passenger only, and the four-cylinder LX comes standard with five-passenger seating.

The base L has a standard 17-inch alloy wheel, a tilt and telescoping steering wheel, stain-resistant fabric upholstery, 40/20/40 split-second-row seats, satellite radio, Bluetooth connectivity, a CD player and an auxiliary audio input. The Sorento LX offers a sound-reducing windshield, a rearview camera, roof rails, a 43.-inch touchscreen interface and two rapid-charge USB ports.

The Sorento EX also comes standard with the LX's Convenience package except for the blind-spot monitor. It includes 18-inch wheels, keyless ignition, steering wheel mounted shift paddles, sound reducing front side glass, leather upholstery, and a second-row manual side sunshades.

The Sorento SX offers a Premium and Advanced Touring package equipment that includes upgraded steering, 19-inch wheels, special exterior trim, LED running lights and taillights, special exterior trim, a 10-way power driver seats, and an 8-inch touchscreen interface. Other feature includes driver memory settings, and a 10-speaker Infinity sound system equipped with Clari-Fi digital music improvement technology.

The SX Limited also packages a plus chrome-clad 19-inch wheels, upgraded leather upholstery, LED foglights, a leather-and-wood trimmed steering wheel and heated second-row outboard seats. Six-speed automatic transmission and front-wheel drive all comes standard on every 2017 Kia Sorento.

The car's towing capacity is 3,500 pounds with front-wheel drive and 5,000 pounds with all-wheel drive. It also comes with three drive mode select such as Normal, Sport and Eco. The 2017 Kia Sorento has a starting price of $33,300 in the U.S.
