AMD's effort to regain the market it had lost to its closest rival, Intel, is slowly turning into fruition if latest leaks are to be believed. Recently, a leaked presentation slide revealed that AMD Ryzen 5 1600X processor outperforms Intel's Core i7-6850K both in multithreaded and single-threaded tests using the CPU-Z benchmarking tool.

The leak also provided details about how AMD will price its upcoming Ryzen processors. While the i7-6850K costs $610 apiece, AMD is planning to slap a $259 price tag for the Ryzen 5 1600X.

Setting the price difference aside, the two processors have almost identical specifications. Both processors sport 6 cores with 12 threads each. The AMD Ryzen 5 1600X has a maximum turbo frequency of 3.7GHz, while the Intel chip maxes at 3.8GHz.

Another important factor that might decide the winner of this impending clash of chips is the Thermal Design Power or TDP, a measurement used to gauge power consumption and thermal output. The Intel i7-6850K is rated for 140W, while the AMD Ryzen 5 1600X has a stunning 95W TDP. This is a serious factor, especially for enthusiasts. A lower TDP not only entails lower power consumption but also opens up a lot of headroom for overclocking potential.

It is important to note that not all programs take advantage of all cores and threads offered by processors on both sides of the aisle. One of the biggest questions now is up to what extent can people overclock Ryzen processors.

A leaked benchmark result was also picked up by Hot Hardware recently. It shows the AMD Ryzen 5 1600X chip matching the score of an Intel Core i7-6800K when tested on the Cinebench R15 benchmarking tool.

On a more casual note, AMD's estimated pricing for upcoming AMD Ryzen chips will prove to be a genuine cause of concern for folks over at Intel. According to Forbes, AMD will launch the Ryzen processors early in March.
