2017 is the year of the Most Fuel Efficient SUVs. Consumer Reports created a list of the most fuel-efficient cars and it includes the Tesla Model X 90D, Toyota Rav4 Hybrid XLE, and Lexus RX 450h.

According to Consumer Reports, these cars bested other cars in the Most Fuel Efficient SUVs Category. 50 tests for the SUVs are fuel economy measurements which include using a flow meter and a miles per gallon measurement.

Tesla Model X. The number one in the Consumer Reports list and the only electric SUV existing now - with a price tag of about $83,000 - $115,500. This fully electric SUV has an overall CR rating of 92 mpg miles per gallon, three times more efficient than the average petrol-based SUV, making it more cost-effective in the long run.

However, the Tesla Model X has been tagged as "more showy than practical" by Consumer Reports. It has beautiful falcon wing doors (go sideways and up) but tends to be fussy at opening the doors. Aside from the hard to manage doors, a first-year reliability of the car is doubtful.

SUVs have always been perceived as these lumbering four wheel drive cars, a bit of a gas guzzler especially for the bigger ones reports Carbuyer UK. But, some SUVs can still be considered fuel efficient and worth the price because of the roomier space they usually have.

2017 Toyota RAV4 Hybrid XLE. Consistently ranked as one of the top small SUVs, this 2.5 four-cylinder got a great overall score of 31 MPG for fuel efficiency at an affordable $24,000-$36,000. Plus, the XLE version gets climate controls, a sunroof, and a roomier back seat. This car deserves its spot in the most fuel efficient SUVs list.

2017 Lexus RH 450h. The third placer for the most fuel efficient SUVs list has a fuel efficiency factor of 24 MPG. This energy-thrifty SUV also made it in Kelley Blue Books' most fuel efficient SUV list with. It is also fully kitted with safety features like the automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control etc.
