Wal-Mart Ammunition Limit: Megastore Will Only Allow People To By Three Boxes Of Ammunition Per Day Due To Limited Supplies

Walmart has started to limit the amount of ammunition customers can purchase to three boxes per customer per day according to Reuters.

The ammunition limit is being blamed on limited supplies, since gun sales have risen across the country since the Dec. 14 shooting at a Newtown, Connecticut elementary school. Walmart was a charter member of New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg's coalition against illegal guns and instilled a 10-point code created by the Responsible Firearms Retailer Partnership.

Most Walmart locations around the country have been running low on ammunition since December, mainly because people are afraid that new gun laws may restrict them in the near future from purchasing such items according to The Denver Post.

"In order to take care of as many customers as possible, starting Thursday, Jan. 24, all ammunition sales were limited to three boxes per customer, per day as supply is limited at this time," spokeswoman Ashley Hardie told Reuters on Wednesday.

The megastore currently sells more guns and ammunition than any other retailer in the U.S. according to The City Wire. Firearms were pulled from most locations in 2006, but found their way back on to shelves in 2010 according to the report.

The company isn't the only organization running low on ammunition however, as police departments around the U.S. have been reporting limited supplies of ammunition according to the Inquisitr.

"There's been more demand for ammunition than there's ever been. We're going to be starting to get very concerned at the six-moth level if that's all we have in stock, because then we have to start planning and rationing."

Walmart U.S. is recognized as the largest unit of Wal-Mart Stores Inc and as the world's largest retailer according to Reuters.

The Bentonville, Arkansas-based company stated that they are working on trying to find the right balance between serving hunters and sportsmen, while ensuring that they sell firearms in a responsible manner.
